The course provides refresher training for Helideck Emergency Team Leaders of offshore installations.

Theoretical aspects

  • To update knowledge concerning the most relevant modifications about helicopter operations, systems, legislation and norms
  • Concept of helicopter emergency response:
  • Objectives and general purposes of firefighting safety
  • Helideck team’s Priorities during an emergency
  • Fixed and mobile firefighting systems
  • Dynamic evaluation of risks
  • Search and rescue on helideck and inside the helicopter
  • Victims management.

Human factors effects on emergency response (stress effects on decision-making capacity)

Techniques to keep calm during emergencies response

 

Practical session

HLO emergency response

  • Effective communication with all the personnel involved in the emergency response
  • How to lead the team in a clear and decisive way
  • To lead the entry into the accident area, considering the emergency team safety
  • To supervise firefighting operations following the accident
  • To supervise the non- firefighting operations during the helicopter accident
  • To obtain feedbacks from HAD ERT on the plan progresses
  • How to check the breathing apparatuses functions
  • Fixed and mobile firefighting system use
  • Spare emergency team use (briefing with the team leader)
  • Missing personnel and victim management:
  • Priorities
  • Number of missing people
  • Injured people management

 

Emergency response practical exercises

  • Emergency entry and exit (on helicopter and on helideck)
  • To keep escape means from the accident area
  • Emergency response (no fire)
  • Firefighting equipment choice according to the type of accident
  • Use of firefighting fixed monitors
  • Use of mobile and portable firefighting equipment (including fire extinguishers)
  • Response to Class A fires caused by helicopter accidents
  • Response to Class B fires caused by helicopter accidents
  • How to unroll hoses and consequent dangers
  • Localisation, extrication and management of missing person and victim after a helicopter accident on helideck
  • Breathing apparatuses checks
  • Use of breathing apparatuses
  • A valid Helideck Emergency Team  Leader
  • A valid Helideck Emergency Team  Leader further
