Ensure that the personnel gains the required knowledge and understanding of the particular hazards and properties of a Compressed Air Emergency Breathing System (CA-EBS). The course includes theoretical and practical lessons. The course is in Italian and, on request, in English.
Theoretical aspects:
- CA-EBS principles of use:
Differences between a re-breather system and a compressed air system
- Advantages of an A-category EBS:
- Opening rapidity
- Underwater opening
- Really Limited breathing resistance
- It can be opened with only one hand
- Reduced dead space and possibility to expel water through mouthpiece
- Disadvantages of a compressed air EBS
- Limited air supply
- While ascending breath must not be held
- Dangers related to a compressed air EBS use
- Pulmonary extension dangers
- Violent inspiration due to cold water ingress shock
- Cough
- Mouthpiece movement (accidental or intentional)
- Air loss
- Air exhaustion
- CA-EBS components and elements
- Mouthpiece
- Little tank
- Demand valve
- Pressure gauge
- Tank valve (if provided)
- Valve Status indicator(open-closed) (if provided)
- Purge button
- Nose-plug (if provided)
- Charge point
- Operations with EBS together with other emergency equipment
- Life jacket
- Survival suit (right size)
- PLB
- Operations with Life jacket
- Importance to remove mouthpiece and nose-plug before inflation
- Inflation systems
- Never inflate life jackets inside the aircraft
- PLB activation
- Strobe light and fixed light activation
- Whistle use and lanyard (link to another life jacket)
- Inflation hose and pressure valve
- Positioning of splash protection visor
Practical session:
- Compressed air EBS check before wearing and use manometer reading
- Correct working of the valve status indicator
- Tank valve (if provided)
- How to wear a life jacket with a compressed air EBS
- Make sure the belt (if provided) is not twisted
- Life jacket fastening
- Belt adjustment
- Make sure that the belt is correctly fastened (even the thigh strap)
- Make sure that the EBS mouthpiece is correctly positioned
- After wearing the equipment check your partner
- Emergency CA-EBS opening:
- Device locating
- Rapid opening
- Approaching to the face, wearing mouthpiece and nose-plug, sealing the mouthpiece
- Breathing normally
- How to purge the system
- How to locate the mouthpiece that moved
- Breathing until the air runs out (look at the oxygen tank to see when the air is about to finish)
Training:
– A valid (in-date) OPITO approved BOSIET/FOET/HUET or T-BOSIET/T-FOET/T-HUET Certificate.
Physical:
